While a visit to the Mouse is on the list for a lot of vacationers heading to Orlando any time of year, there are many other activities and attractions to fill your time, some where you can learn while having fun! Whether you’re trying to prevent summer learning loss, taking a break from the rigors of academic work, or just want to make sure the kids learn a little something while having fun, there’s something for everyone.

Orlando Science Center

Having “science” in the name may put off those kids who are set on no school during vacation, but that will change once they’re in the door. The Orlando Science Center makes learning about science fun. From interactive exhibits like the DinoDigs, KidsTown, and others, your students will be having fun and might not realize they’re learning. Stop by The Hive Makerspace and learn how to make amazing things like 3D models, solder a circuit board, or even learn to sew.

Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament

Fill your belly while you fill your mind and have fun doing it. Learn about the knights and dames of medieval times with a visit to the arena. You’ll dine on traditional medieval fare like giant turkey legs while you watch the knights duel in the arena or joust on horseback. There’s no history book lesson to be had, but you’ll be immersed in the history and culture of the time for an unforgettable memory.

Sleuths Mystery Dinner Show

Another fun time that mixes a delicious meal with exercise for your brain. Take a seat and devour four-cheese ravioli, prime rib, and a selection of kids’ meals to satisfy everyone while you watch and flex your brain as you play along to figure out “who dunnit?” along with the cast. There are several shows to choose from, including Squires Inn – where you’ll stay after your tour bus through northwest England breaks down, to The Reunion – where you’ll attend a class reunion that ends up in murder. Call ahead for reservations.

Kennedy Space Center

Take your mind and your curiosity out of this world with a trip to Kennedy Space Center. There are plenty of exhibits, including some hands-on ones, that will take you through what it’s like to be a NASA astronaut. Learn about the different space missions from the famous moon landing in 1969 to Artemis I, NASA’s most recent mission to make it to the moon, and everything in between. You’ll also see what it takes to be and train like an astronaut or take part in Cosmic Quest – a live action gaming experience that simulates real NASA missions.

Lessons

Learning can be fun and relaxing! When people think of Florida, they think of the ocean, beaches, and tons of outdoor fun year-round with beautiful weather. If you haven’t so much as held a stand-up paddleboarding paddle or wakeboard bar, now might be a great time to learn. There are several companies that offer lessons for a myriad of fun activities you’ll be able to do at any vacation destination. If a land activity is more to your liking, try Orlando Circus School or the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

Step back in time over 100 years to April 1912 and the maiden voyage of the ship. Learn about the ship’s construction, the luxuries aboard, and the advanced technology of the day. You’ll hear stories of passengers and crew and dive deep to learn about artifact recovery and conservation. There’s a special tour just for the kids, with a fun scavenger hunt that goes room by room through the exhibits. Take some time to learn about the heroes aboard, including those who sacrificed their lives to save others. If you happen to be visiting on a Friday or Saturday, dress in your best and attend the First-Class Dinner Gala, open to all ages. The museum and all of the exhibits are open daily, but the special tours run on a schedule and may not be available when you visit, so make sure to plan for your interests.
